Carl D. Reece, Principal
Carl D. Reece has been an attorney recruiter since 1987. Before establishing RLS in 1999, he was a senior attorney search consultant with a nationally recognized recruiting firm based in Los Angeles. He has placed associates and partners at premiere national law firms and Fortune 500 companies, both nationally and internationally. He has enhanced the careers of litigators and transactional attorneys with expertise in a wide array of practice specialties, including corporate securities, finance (including project finance), banking, lending, bankruptcy, tax, intellectual property, real estate and entertainment law. A contributing panelist and seminar moderator at numerous industry conferences, Mr. Reece has also been a guest columnist for the legal trade paper, the Los Angeles Daily Journal.
He has been a guest lecturer at the University Of Southern California School Of Law. In March 2005, he was invited to be a panelist and faculty for The American Lawyer Media’s Chief Recruiting & Professional Development Officers conference held at the St. Regis in New York City. He is a former Director and Past President of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Legal Search Consultants (NALSC). In 2004, he was appointed by Los Angeles Mayor James Hahn to the Los Angeles Workforce Investment Board (WIB) Youth Council. In 2007, he was reappointed by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to the Los Angeles WIB Youth Council. The WIB Youth Council was mandated by the United States Congress in August 1998, under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), which brings together many federal and state employment, education and training programs under a single umbrella. WIA programs in Southern California alone total over $300M per year.
Prior to his career as an attorney recruiter, Mr. Reece worked in applied technology and banking. In Palo Alto, California, he managed the development of instructional software at Syntex Labs. In New York, he was a credit analyst with the Swiss Bank Corporation.
In 1987, Mr. Reece received his M.A. degree in Computer-Based Training and Instructional Design from San Francisco State University. He matriculated at New York University and The New School for Social Research, where his completed graduate courses in the areas of Latin American and Caribbean Studies and International Relations. In 1980, he earned his B.A. degree in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco.

elizabeth a. cody, director
Elizabeth (“Beth”) Cody is the Director of Associate Recruiting for RLS. Prior to joining RLS in 2012, Beth has recruited and placed attorneys in California and New York City for six years, and she loves to recruit! Prior to her position with RLS, she was Director of Recruitment for Kelly Law Registry (San Francisco and Silicon Valley). She was also West Coast Managing Director for Law Firm Staff (a division of BCG Attorney Search), based in Palo Alto, California. Further, she was an attorney recruiter in New York City.
Beth has worked with attorneys at all levels. She has an outstanding record of success and deep contacts with law firms and corporations in the greater Bay Area. While she places attorneys throughout the United States, Beth's strength is placing intellectual property attorneys in the greater Silicon Valley and San Francisco areas.
Prior to her recruiting career, Beth was in sales and sales management for West Publishing, later Thomson West. She was a sales professional with West in San Francisco, New York and New Jersey. At West, she managed sales teams in Colorado, Washington, Oregon and throughout the Midwestern states. With Thomson, she was an expat in Sydney, Australia for two years, where she created the first Westlaw program for the law schools in Australia and New Zealand.
She has experience working for a Silicon Valley electronic discovery organization coordinating the sale and fulfillment of comprehensive electronic discovery services.
She is an attorney admitted in California and practiced labor law. Prior to attending law school, Beth was a newspaper reporter and editor. She is a graduate of Brown University, where she studied Comparative Literature—English and Spanish--and the University of San Francisco School of Law. During college, she studied at the University of Madrid, and she likes to speak Spanish whenever possible.
She is a native of San Francisco and her family goes back five generations in the greater Bay Area. When Beth is not recruiting, she loves to play competitive tennis on teams on the Peninsula and is a plein-air oil painter and portrait artist. She exhibits her oil paintings in galleries thoughout the country and has a studio at Palo Alto Studios.
Beth is on the Peninsula/Silicon Valley Council for the University of San Francisco School of Law, a fund-raising group, and is an Ambassador for SVdP’s Catherine’s Center. This is a place of dignity and safety for women to live after leaving jail or prison. It incorporates a Restorative Justice Program run by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of San Mateo in alliance with the Sisters of Mercy West Midwest Community.
She lives in Palo Alto, California, with her partner, Jim, and no dog, yet.
